Here at LEAP Learning, we make it a priority to put students’ understanding and learning above all else. Some things that set us apart from other tutoring services are:
LEAP Learning was started by Chitra, our Director and Senior Tutor. She has been a registered teacher for over 20 years and has taught all ages spanning from Pre-Kindy in Early Childhood Care to Year 12 in High School. Chitra taught Computer Science in High School with a Masters in Secondary Teaching (UWS) at first but then completed a Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECU) and focused more on pre-school ages. She now works as a Primary Teacher in Cannington.
Chitra started this tutoring centre over 10 years ago to provide accessible and affordable learning to students. She oversees every class and provides the work that students follow. Along with her daughter, Dyuthi, Chitra ensures that each student’s needs are met and that learning is occurring at every moment. There are so many tutoring services that focus on the already-high achieving students, only wanting to push them further, but we really wanted to ensure that everyone was given an equal opportunity. No matter your child’s abilities, we will nurture them and provide education in a way they can understand.
LEAP Learning is an initiative by a passionate teacher and a mother of two children who aims to empower all children and support them to achieve their best. It is a family oriented education centre to assist parents and guide them to support their child’s learning. As such, we are aware of the struggles of every parent and the barriers that they have in regards to understanding their child’s learning journey.
Parents and students alike are grateful for the support and guidance that they have received through LEAP; and these experiences are passed on to their friends and close communities, allowing LEAP to grow every day. We did not find a reason to advertise and market our service as we believe in the dedication and hard work that we put in each child as our biggest investment. Our business has mainly grown due to word-of-mouth and the trust our customers have in our services. We love to do what we are passionate about and it is great to see how our community has helped us grow as well.
For Primary students, we offer Maths and English – normally in one lesson we will focus on Math topics for one hour and English topics (reading comprehension, spelling and writing) for one for a total of two hours each class. All lessons are designed aligning with Australian Curriculum Standards, thereby providing every student the opportunity to cater for their expected learning needs and providing challenges to go above and beyond.
Year 4s and 5s have specialized GATE/ASET lessons where the four components – Quantitative Reasoning, Abstract Reasoning, Reading Comprehension and Writing, will be covered within the two hours.
For High School students we offer Maths, English and Science classes. Specifically for ATAR students in Year 11 and 12, this will encompass Applications, Methods, Specialist, English, Literature, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Human Biology.
Based on Expressions of Interest, we may begin to offer Coding lessons for Primary students soon!.
Yes, you can contact us and book a free trial lesson. This time will also be used to do an assessment to allow us to understand the learning needs of your child. Based on the results from the assessment, we will recommend the classes that best suit your child.
Our classes are not year level based, but skill based. So if your child is capable of understanding higher year concepts, we give them the opportunity to challenge them to try harder to perform academically better and give them all possible ways to excel in their learning.
During general Primary lessons, we will cover one hour of Maths and one hour of English. Maths will include marking homework from the week before, as well as explaining the questions that students got wrong. Topics will be discussed in detail, and students are asked to write down the in depth working out. The English section consists of marking reading comprehension homework, spelling/grammar homework and teaching writing skills. Tutors will give individual feedback on the writing homework done and discuss new strategies to implement into their creative writing for next time.
GATE classes (Year 4 and 5) will also include Abstract Reasoning sections within these two hours. We will also specifically focus on completing questions in timed situations to prepare students for the pressure of the GATE/ASET exam.
In Semester 2, Year 2, 4 & 6 classes will focus on NAPLAN preparation and helping students to improve their problem solving skills and writing skills.
High school classes are more individual based – students will bring in work from school and tutors will help to go over the topics that they are struggling with or get a head start on content that they will learn in school.
No, at the moment we do not offer online tutoring as an option as we firmly believe in the benefit of attending in person lessons – providing an educational environment that prioritises learning and where tutors can get to know how each student learns.
Yes, we do offer mock GATE/ASET exams for Year 5 students in Term 4, Summer holidays and Term 1. We want to prepare our students to have the best possible chance at the exam. Practicing the timed situations with back to back tests will familiarize students with the environment and allow them to perform better on the exam day. Year 4 and 5 students will also sit for sample GATE tests at the end of each Term to give them an idea about the type of questions and also to assist tutors to prepare them for the upcoming classes.
Classes are held at the Canning Vale centre where we provide face to face lessons and students attend once a week based on the day decided at the time of enrolment. There are no other branches open for LEAP Learning at the moment.
Kindy to Year 1 classes are capped at four students to give full attention during the teaching time. They will be supported individually to cater for their learning needs throughout the lesson.
Year 2 to 6 classes will have a maximum of seven students. In these years students will be supported to work independently, and to take responsibility for their learning. Tutors make sure that every student understands that week’s topics, and that they are capable of completing the assigned work with minimum support from adults.
Year 7 to 12 are individual or paired classes. Here, students have the opportunity to learn their school subjects at their own pace - extra support where needed or learn in advance so they can excel in the classroom. Individual support is available to complete their assignment and to prepare in advance for any upcoming tests.
Fees for Primary Group Lessons:
Fees for Individual / Paired Lessons:
Fees for High School (Individual / Paired Only):
At the commencement of every Term, parents will receive invoices for that Term. There will be a window of three weeks to pay the fees (fees are due on Week 3 of each Term).
Being a family focused centre, we understand your struggles to accommodate every needs of your children. For this reason, we offer you the option to choose a payment plan if you wish to pay on a fortnightly basis. But you are required to inform this before the invoice is issued, so necessary arrangements can be made.
Parents can also pay the fees as cash in person at the centre. If you wish to choose this option, then you will have an extended due date until Week 8 of each Term.
Yes. Students will receive a Booklet at the beginning of each Term which includes a homework plan and weekly homework tasks for the subjects that they are enrolled in.
Booklets are planned based on each Year level curriculum guidelines and student test results. There will be new topics to learn every week and practise questions relating to that. These will be taught in detail in each class so students can complete the homework independently. All sections of homework will be marked in the next class giving each student the opportunity to question and clarify their doubts with the tutor. They will receive personalised feedback about their writing work and new topics and techniques will be taught following this.
Completing weekly homework is an important part of attending classes as this gives students the opportunity to revise the topics and be responsible for their own learning from a young age.
Students can attend a catch up lesson if they miss any lesson due to sickness or other emergencies. It is recommended to attend the catch up class on a different day in the same week, as different topics will be covered in each week.
Please let us know you have any planned holidays during the Term where you will miss more than one lesson. You only have to pay for the lessons attending and we will invoice you accordingly.
Regular classes are scheduled to align with the school Term, giving families the opportunity to spend relaxed, quality time with their children during school holidays. However, due to some parents' requests we run school holiday classes for interested students who want to catch up/ revise the Term’s contents. These lessons help students to boost their confidence and prepare them ready for coming up lessons at school. Our holiday Writing workshops are also very popular among parents as it has massively helped our students with their writing abilities in the previous years.
